The Sigma Corporation has been in operation since 1961 and is more familiar to people as an independent lens maker supplying high quality prime and zoom lenses for both 35mm and digital slr cameras.

In 2002, Sigma released it`s first digital slr camera with a Foveon sensor - the Sigma SD9. The Sigma SD10 digital slr followed shortly afterwards in October 2003. The newest Sigma DSLR is the Sigma SD14 which offers a 14.1 million Foveon sensor which has a resolution of 2652 x 1768 x 3 layers of approximately 4.7 megapixel per layer. Currently, Sigma is the only company at this time to use the Foveon sensor in its` digital SLR range. The Foveon sensor provides rich detailed images with high color fidelity and wide dynamic range.
