Sigma is an independent lens maker which produces a wide range of standard to professional quality lenses for camera systems from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Sony. Over recent years, Sigma has also branched out into making digital SLR and compact cameras using the Foveon sensor and has had limited success with the Sigma SD14 DSLR.
Many of Sigma's EX range of professional quality lenses compare favourably against lenses from other manufacturers in terms of optical quality and overall build. Some standard lenses, although relatively inexpensive, can suffer from lower optical quality and inferior build. For beginners, some standard lenses may be the ideal starter lenses as they can experience digital SLR photography without spending huge sums in the process. |
