Leica was originally formed in 1913 and is now comprised of three divisions - Leica Camera AG, Leica Geosystems AG and Leica Microsystems. Leica Camera AG produces all the world famous Leica rangefinder cameras such as the Leica M6 and the legendary Leica lenses. Over recent years, Leica has collaborated with Panasonic to produce a wide range of sophisticated digital compact cameras such as the D-Lux 3 as well as the M8 digital rangefinder camera.
Together with Panasonic, Leica produced its first digital SLR camera - the Leica Digilux 3. This digital SLR was released late in 2006 and is fitted with a bayonet lens mount conforming to the Four Thirds standard. The Leica Digilux 3 is basically the same as the Panasonic DMC-L1 but with a Leica image processing engine. All recent Leica digital slr cameras are listed below. |
