Digital Camera Makers

Digital SLR Camera Makers / Manufacturers

Most of the main digital slr camera makers or manufacturers were also producers of 35mm slr cameras & lenses including the big five: Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax & Minolta. Sadly Minolta parted company with digital slr cameras and sold the division to Sony.

Other new companies in the market include electronic giants Panasonic and Samsung. The newer companies have managed to get a foothold in the digital slr market by collaborating with established

camera makers. Panasonic works with Leica while Samsung had a brief partnership with Pentax until Samsung decided to leave the digital camera market.

The current state of the digital SLR camera sector is one of heavy competition and lower demand compared to ten years ago. Smartphones, tablet PCs and the mirrorless camera have drawn people away from digital SLR cameras. However, DSLRs continue to appeal to older sections of the population as well as enthusiasts and professionals. DSLR cameras are becoming more specialized with more full frame and medium format cameras coming onto the scene.
