One of the major benefits of digital SLR cameras over standard digital compact cameras is their ability to use interchangeable lenses. Using different lenses for different subjects, coupled with the larger sensors of digitals SLRs, can have a major impact on a photographers work.
The range of lenses on offer will be largely dictated by the camera system that you buy into. Some manufacturers such as Canon and Nikon provide high quality lenses for virtually all subjects from tilt and shift lenses for interiors and architecture photography to large aperture super telephoto zooms for sports photography. In addition independent lens makers such as Sigma, Tokina and Tamron make lenses, often at a lower price, covering all the major camera manufacturers including Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax and Sony. |
